White (Composite) Fillings
White fillings are made of composite resin – a plastic material that conforms to your tooth and blends in with the tooth structure.
In the past, the materials were much weaker than they were today. The fillings were difficult to do perfectly, and would need to be replaced more frequently. These days, the materials are much better, and the white fillings, if done well, should last as long or longer than the silver ones.
What makes them better than silver?
Because we are bonding or gluing these fillings in place, we do not need to make the cavity any bigger than the decay.White fillings are more conservative, leaving more of your healthy tooth, and do not require nearly as much grinding as the silver ones.
Occasionally, Dr. Polevoy will recommend that a silver filling be done. It is very infrequent, and only applies to certain situations.
Our fees for white and silver fillings are the same. If for some reason, you prefer to have a silver filling done, we’ll be happy to do for you (that hasn’t happened yet – but we’ll do it!)
Your insurance covers white fillings in the same way it does silver ones – under the “BASIC” section of your plan, typically 60-80%.
Dental cosmetic tooth bonding is a quick, easy, and relatively inexpensive way to achieve dramatic improvement in your smile.

A bonding is a composite resin that is used as an alternative to amalgams and veneers. Less expensive than dental veneers and great for patients who do not want silver in their mouths, the bonding procedure can normally be completed in one visit.
In the hands of a skilled cosmetic dentist, the tooth looks completely natural.
A dental bonding is a composite resin material that is glued (bonded) to the tooth. Dental veneer is made of porcelain. Cosmetic dentists use dental bonding when the tooth is a good position, and a slight change to color or shape is required. Dental veneers can achieve a lot more.
Bondings are plastic, and will discolor with time, and veneers will not. For this and other reasons, they may have to be replaced more frequently. However, they are also 3 to 4 times less expensive. Depending on your situation, Dr. Polevoy will recommend a cosmetic dentistry solution that is right for you.
