Snap On Dentures: Better Than Traditional Dentures?
Regular dentures can irritate gums and require sticky and uncomfortable adhesives to stay in place. They can strip patients of the ability to chew effectively. Imagine not wanting to eat in public for fear of the adhesive losing its grip, causing the dentures to fall out. How unappetizing!
Yet snap-on, or implant dentures click into implants for a strong, secure fit and allow people to enjoy all of their favorite foods. At Gentle Touch Dentistry, Dr. Steven Polevoy’s extensive experience treating patients who’ve lost some or all of their teeth makes our office the best choice for dentures in Westchester! They are beautiful, natural looking alternatives for tooth replacements.
How Snap On Dentures Work
There are several types of implants and implant systems which can be used to secure dentures.
Snap on dentures allow you to remove them easily for cleaning and care, but stay stable and in place once connected.
An implant (or several implants, depending on your need) is essentially a substitute tooth root that is anchored into the jawbone, where it is given time to heal, usually a few months depending on the patient. Then the implant is modified for a locator attachment so that the dentures can connect to the implant securely. The strong anchorage provides you with a strong bite!
Better Taste With Snap On Dentures?
Patients find that eating and speaking improves dramatically after receiving dental implants, as the full chewing surface is restored. Snap on dentures are palate-less, meaning, they do not cover your full palate like traditional dentures. Your tastebuds will not be compromised!
In addition, patients need only a minimal number of implants, typically four, to hold their full dentures securely in place.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants preserve the bone and prevent further bone loss from occurring. No tooth = no bone. Traditional dentures do not have an implant that mimics a tooth root to hold the missing tooth’s spot in ‘place’ in the jaw. This can lead to tooth loss and teeth migration, which can also cause your face to change shape and sag or droop. Dental implants prevent bone loss and therefore fully restore your smile’s natural beauty and shape.
